Sigiriya

Sri Lanka's most iconic landmark: a colossal granite monolith rising nearly 200 metres from surrounding jungle, crowned by a fifth-century palace fortress of astonishing ambition. The climb passes ancient water gardens, remarkably preserved frescoes and the Mirror Wall before a panoramic summit plateau, simultaneously a feat of engineering and a great work of art.
