The deep waters off the southern coast at Mirissa are among the finest whale watching grounds in the Indian Ocean, a seasonal marine corridor where blue whales, the largest animals that have ever lived on Earth, transit reliably between December and April alongside sperm whales, Bryde’s whales and enormous pods of spinner and common dolphins. This day tour departs Colombo or Negombo in the early morning to arrive at Mirissa harbour for the first boats, which operate under a responsible viewing code designed to minimise disturbance to the whales while maximising the quality of the encounter. Includes round transfer, boat excursion with a naturalist aboard, marine conservation briefing, light refreshments at sea and time at Mirissa beach after the excursion.
