Kataragama

Sri Lanka's most powerful multi-faith pilgrimage destination draws Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Vedda people in enormous numbers, particularly during the July–August Esala festival. The presiding deity is venerated across all traditions, and the sacred precinct each evening, incense, drumming and chanting are unlike anywhere else in the country.
